Support to Small Businesses and Not-for-Profits Program
The Canadian Red Cross is committed to supporting people and communities impacted by the 2025 Newfoundland and Labrador Wildfires. We know from experience that support for small businesses and not-for-profit organizations is essential to the recovery of people and communities affected by a disaster.
As such, thanks to the generosity of donors to the 2025 Newfoundland and Labrador Wildfires Appeal, the Red Cross is offering financial assistance to eligible small businesses and not-for-profit organizations that are located in communities which were under an evacuation order for more than 14 days due to the 2025 Newfoundland and Labrador. We encourage you to apply if you meet the eligibility requirements listed below.

Application Period
The Support to Small Businesses and Not-for-Profits Program will begin accepting applications on October 27, 2025, until February 27, 2026.
Minimum requirements for the program
To be eligible for this program small businesses must:
- Have 50 employees or less*
- Be in an area that was under an evacuation order for at least 14 days due to the 2025 Newfoundland and Labrador Wildfires.
- Must be currently registered or licensed with all applicable agencies or jurisdiction's including the following:
- Newfoundland and Labrador Corporate Registry and/or
- Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) for federally registered charities.
In addition, eligible applicants must:
- Have been in operation on or before the date an evacuation order was put in place for their community.
- Be financially vulnerable as a result of the impacts of the 2025 Newfoundland and Labrador Wildfires
- Have resumed or are intending to resume operations
- Have a net income of less than $350,000 (calculated as revenue less expenses) *
- Have the business be their primary source of income*
*Does not apply to not-for-profit organizations
Funding available
Eligible applicants that meet the minimum requirements may be eligible for funding of $2,000 to support uninsured expenses.
In addition, these applicants may also apply for up to $8,000 in additional funding to contribute to expenses not covered by insurance or previously funded through other assistance programs. Please note that this additional funding must be validated by receipts.
